Did you know… At least 64 million Americans are reported to have digestive problems, but the people suffering is suspected to be MUCH higher. This topic is just not something you talk about over the dinner table or with friends …. plus a “gut related problem” often appears unrelated to the digestive tract!

Did you know you are more bacteria than you are human? Crazy, right! You have approximately 10 million human cells vs. 100 trillion bacteria cells….making your more microbe than DNA! And at least 70-80% of your immune system is located in the gut.

The gut microflora is the collection of bacteria and other organisms that live in your digestive tract. These bugs can cause problems like gas, bloating, burping, acid reflux, diarrhea and constipation. But also be related to fatigue, depression, nutrient deficiencies, food/environmental sensitivities, immune disorders, hormone/thyroid problems….and more!

Depending on balance of good vs. bad bugs in your gut, they could actually be causing damage to your gut wall. This damage will break down the lining of the wall causing you to be more susceptible to toxins and partially undigested food particles that can easily get into the body and cause inflammation. That is when the immune system becomes activated and attacks (what it thinks is) foreign invaders. When this happens over and over again the inflammation in the gut increases, causing more damage. It begins a vicious cycle that can keep the pain and inflammation going strong unless both the inflammation and root cause(s) of the gut issues are resolved. (note that often there may be more than 1 cause!)
